AFG is providing construction management services to NYC Department of Design and Construction for this renovation and addition of the Queens Borough Hall.
The project consists of the construction of an 11,000 SF addition of steel and glass, a public atrium for meetings and ceremonies, new interiors, a new passenger elevator, reconfigured and renovated office space, new bathrooms and interior roof gardens, performance space & theatre, and a new north end entrance. Also included are HVAC systems, new electric service, new boiler/chiller, four new handling units and fire alarm tie-ins. Exterior renovations consist of new limestone façade.
The initial site work included the demolition of the concrete pavers and existing sidewalks; the installation of new granite pavers, new catch basins, manholes and new site drainage piping and tying into existing; and the installation of site lighting. The scope also included the demolition of the approximately 350 SF of existing asphalt parking lot; and the installation of new asphalt and lot striping; a new entrance of green space, tree and shrub plantings and refurbishing historical light fixtures and tree grates.
Site investigations/survey of building details and existing conditions, site preconstruction documentation and analysis, observation, review, supervision, testing, probes, LEED certification of the project, asbestos and lead abatement identification, coordination and documentation, and the monitor, coordination and reporting of all trade work necessary towards the expeditious completion of the project. AFG is also responsible for overseeing testing and inspections which include certified inspectors at the fabrication plant in Canada.
