AFG/NPS Team Wins Project Achievement Merit Award
The AFG Group / National Park Service (NPS) Team is proud to announce their receipt of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) New York/New Jersey Project Achievement Merit Award for the Castle Clinton National Monument Façade Restoration Project.
This prestigious accolade recognizes exemplary construction management practices and successful project completion on the $5.4 million restoration effort located in Battery Park, Manhattan.
Overseeing all construction management services, AFG embarked on a 2.5-year journey to revive the historic structure of Castle Clinton, a vital landmark dating back to 1811. The project involved meticulous restoration techniques including capping, stabilization, and conservation treatments to preserve its architectural integrity.
Castle Clinton is the official ticket office for the Statue of Liberty and a key tourist attraction drawing over 3 million visitors annually. Despite challenges such as unexpected discoveries and logistical complexities, AFG delivered ahead of schedule, achieving over $250,000 in cost savings for NPS.
In 2023, The New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award was presented to the Castle Clinton National Monument Team, and in February 2024, AFG’s Barbara Oulds, CCM, Project Manager, presented a case study on the project during a CMAA National Webinar, to which over 150 professionals attended.
