Powering Up for the New Year: AFG Recognizes Employee Excellence

Every great organization has its superheroes, and at AFG’s Annual Awards and Holiday Party, we recognized our very own! These champions demonstrated extraordinary dedication, unstoppable commitment, and next-level excellence in their fields.

AFG EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNERS

This year, we honored our Excellence Award winners in four key categories: Client Appreciation, Sustaining Client Service, AFG Appreciation, and Spotlight Awards. These heroes went above and beyond, proving that their superpowers are in full force!

Client Appreciation Winners have been recognized by their clients for providing excellent customer service and ensuring the success of their projects.

  • Michael Anderson, Sr. Project Manager, Washington, DC

Michael is recognized as the sole contractor nationwide to receive GSA’s Outstanding Customer Service Award for the 3rd Quarter. He has demonstrated exceptional client satisfaction, cost-saving innovations, and dedication to project success.

  • Shawn Blough, QA Inspector, Bethesda, MD

Shawn has become the go-to QA inspector and subject matter expert for NIH parking garage repairs, earning high praise from several Project Officers for his expertise and dedication. His work on Building 33 projects contributed to an NIH Director Award.

  • Kelly Williams, Project Director, NY/NJ

After staffing changes in AFG’s NE Division, Kelly was asked to step up as Project Director. He successfully managed multiple concurrent tasks including leading key projects like the GSA Region 2 Newark, NJ initiative, serving as the lead inspector for the Urban/DDC Regent Family Residence renovation, and, managing new staff in downstate NY.

Sustaining Client Service Winners have, not only, provided superior customer service, but have exceeded client expectations to ensure the continuity of that client’s relationship and/or contract with AFG.

  • Ly Huynh, Construction Manager, Washington, DC

Ly has been invaluable to the 7-year-long GSA HUD Headquarters Façade Restoration project and contractor teams. When the GSA PM went on paternity leave, Ly seamlessly expanded his role, keeping the project on time and within budget. Additionally, he took the lead in successfully closing out the GSA Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Modernization project.

  • Peter Solor, Project Director, Philadelphia, PA

Peter is a one-person powerhouse in the Philadelphia (Mid-Atlantic) region, managing multiple projects while serving as AFG’s liaison with the National Park Service. He provides superb leadership support to other Project Directors, demonstrating a positive attitude, proactive project stewardship, and an unwavering willingness to assist with any opportunity or proposal.

  • Mike Wheeler, Project Manager, Gaithersburg, MD

Before a GC’s contract was terminated on a major project for NIST, Mike ensured 400 GB of critical documents were retrieved, organized, and reconstructed. He maintained strong supplier communication and earned high praise from a challenging client, with their safety lead highlighting his exemplary value.

AFG Appreciation Winners were nominated by a peer or supervisor for exhibiting more than one of AFG’s Core Values while either working with an AFG client or with our internal team.

  • LeRoy Courseault, Sr. Project Manager, Atlanta, GA

LeRoy, even as a part-time employee, has been essential to the SE Division, supporting remote projects and filling hard-to-staff roles. His flexibility, dedication, responsiveness, and quality results have consistently earned him praise from his clients at GSA.

  • Terry Dittmer, Sr. Scheduling Manager, Silver Spring, MD

Terry has filled key roles across multiple AFG divisions, stepping in on short notice for GSA, NIH, NIST, and Smithsonian projects. For each client, he provided crucial scheduling support, managed difficult contractors, and offered QA inspections, ensuring smooth project execution.

  • Joseph Dunn, QC Manager, Washington, DC

Joe is essential to the success of the LBJ Program, ensuring project continuity and compliance. GSA depends on his leadership and strong relationships with the Department of Education.

  • Adam Shepherd, Estimator & Assistant Project Manager, Nashville, TN

Adam has quickly proven his value at AFG by taking on dual roles on the GSA Trout River LPOE Project. His versatility and consistent performance have made him the client’s primary point of contact, and his proactive approach has made a significant impact.

  • Ron Shepherd, Sr. Estimator, Granbury, TX

Ron delivers high-quality estimates and thorough analyses across multiple AFG divisions. His accuracy and reliability are frequently praised by both clients and colleagues, and his expertise is highly respected.
