SMPS DC Recognizes AFG with an MCA

SMPS DC’s MCA competition is designed to recognize exceptional marketing and communication teams and their unique efforts to promote architectural, engineering, design, and construction firms. This year, AFG received Honorable Mention in the Special Events Category for our ‘Bee-lieve in Teamwork – Bring Your Work to Your Child Day’ Campaign.

The typical ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’ held in April, involves bringing your child into the office, however, many of AFG’s staff are unable to bring children to active job sites due to safety and security concerns, and also without disrupting normal school day activities. Therefore, AFG makes it a more inclusive occasion by hosting a ‘Bring Your Work to Your Child Day’ in which a STEAM activity kit related to AFG’s expertise is carefully curated and mailed to the homes of parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and anyone looking to share more about their work with the children in their lives.

In alignment with the 2023 global Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation’s theme ‘Working Better Together’, Marketing designed an activity kit around what it means to be part of the AFG team. Pairing the ideals of teamwork and construction with the timing of Earth Day, Marketing selected the theme of ‘bees’ to demonstrate how collaboration is integral to achieving success and how every worker is important. Marketing created kits and educational materials to construct Bee houses (artificial hives) and wildflower gardens, providing natural support for endangered pollinators.

The year’s BYWTYC Day taught AFG Juniors how teamwork, exemplified by their parents, can make their dreams work.
