GSA Region 3 National Park Service Regional Headquarters at 1234 Market Street
Federal & Defense Agencies
The National Park Service (NPS) office at 1234 Market Street in Philadelphia, PA is the headquarters for the NPS Northeast Region 1, part of the Department of the Interior. The 20th Floor houses the Office of the Regional Director, Office of External Affairs, Office of Budget, Finance and Accountability, Office of Administration, and employees of Park Operations. Located in the heart of resurgent Market East corridor, the 1234 Market Street building is a modern structure at 20 stories and 731,000 SF.
This project includes NPS renovation over 32,000 SF of new office space on the 20h floor. In keeping with the concept of parks and recreation, the renovation design and construction theme incorporated reclaimed wood, exposed ceilings, clouds, and a living wall and trellis. In keeping with mandatory security features of all government offices, keycode entry with randomized scramble pads, security cameras, and more were all added to the office space. New fixtures and furnishings were installed throughout including new lounge furniture, office desks, chairs, and cubicle space, and a remodeled reception area. The project was a complete success with the building owner, management, facilities, architect/engineer, and contractor working together with GSA to complete it on time, budget, and with quality finishes and performance within a very tight schedule.
Specific features introduced to the space included Living walls, also known as green walls, which are vertical surfaces that are densely covered with vegetation. They offer a practical solution of adding greenery into buildings with tight areas or limited square footage.
AFG acted as agent and facilitator for GSA by providing full lifecycle construction management services. The AFG team facilitated and coordinated the activities of all parties to ensure that the project was implemented according to plan, performing services related to constructability, construction strategy, logistics, and budget control.
