GSA U.S. Post Office and Federal Courthouse, Columbus, GA

This project involves the design and construction of a solution to the ongoing water intrusion and related issues within the Columbus, GA Post office and Federal Courthouse.

The three-story Columbus courthouse was originally constructed in 1933 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building currently houses the U.S. District Court, U.S. Marshal, U.S. Probation, and U.S. Post Office, with the upper floor housing the Federal District Court.

During this project, AFG is offering Construction Manager services for the design and construction of mold abatement, lead paint abatement, asbestos abatement, and other repairs to the U.S. Post Office and Federal Courthouse in Columbus, GA. The design team is responsible for analysis of documents at each phase, incorporating cost estimating, schedule implementation, and constructability reviews to ensure designs meet guidelines and the P100 requirements.

AFG services on this project includes building inspections to determine the source of the leaks and extent of damage related to lead in the flaking paint and mold and mildew on interior surfaces, design and removal of ACM floor tiles in the basement and Post Office work area on the first floor, design and repair of leaks at the basement window wells and basement outside wall in the US Courts Records Storage Room. Different sections of the project include Core & Shell, Tenant Improvement renovations, Security upgrades, and AV. Renovations and repairs to the Courthouse have been designed to meet the security needs and specifications of a modern courthouse building while maintaining the National Registrar of Historic Places status.
